Microsoft and Google Team Up in Ethernet Consortium

After plans for a faster IEEE specification stalled, Microsoft, Google, Arista, and two other firms have teamed up to develop specifications for 25 and 50Gbit Ethernet links. The specifications will be made available to equipment vendors free of royalties, build on the IEEE 802.3 standard, and should result in new products within 18 months, according to the consortium.
